Laura Stewart, Chief Academic Officer, 95 Percent Group will facilitate an interactive, deep dive into the Science of Reading.

    • What has science taught us about how children learn to read?
    • How do these findings help transform instructional practice?
    • What framework can impact system-wide change and literacy success?

Attendees will leave Day 1 with an understanding of the principles of the Science of Reading, practical reading techniques to put into immediate action, and a framework for implementing system-wide change.

Jan Hasbrouck is a researcher, educational consultant, and author. She was a reading specialist and literacy coach for 15 years before teaching at the University of Oregon and later becoming a professor at Texas A&M University. She served as Executive Consultant to the Washington State Reading Initiative and as an advisor to the Texas Reading Initiative. 

She is the author and co-author of several books, including Conquering Dyslexia, Reading Fluency, Student-Focused Coaching, and Educators as Physicians, along with several assessment tools. In 2019 she helped found Read Washington, a nonprofit organization with the mission to provide professional development opportunities based on the science of reading so every student becomes a skilled and confident reader.

Elementary Language Arts Consultant and Natalie Walker, Teacher Specialist, will share their implementation journey and how they worked to add Science of Reading aligned instructional practices and resources in their district to vastly improve outcomes for K-6 students.
