Our reading science implementation symposium is designed for literacy leaders to build an aligned literacy vision. The event offers valuable knowledge-building opportunities, idea exploration, and practical applications to support school and district-wide implementation systems.
While the symposium is tailored for administrators and building leaders, we invite you to maximize this experience by bringing your team to collaboratively embrace bold, research-driven approaches that improve literacy outcomes for all students.
Symposium Overview
Join Laura Stewart, Chief Academic Officer, 95 Percent Group, and Terrie Noland, PhD, CALP, and Literacy Leader as they lead the charge to support school and district teams as they focus on building a literacy vision to improve systems and instruction for every student.
This experience focuses on providing leaders with practical steps in understanding goal setting, forming implementation teams, aligning assessments and resources, crafting professional learning, and more, all while upholding and protecting the literacy vision with courageous leadership.

Attendees will hear from district leadership teams who have gone through a literacy transformation journey and learn about the steps they have taken, and the lessons learned to achieve significant outcomes for their students.
A Roadmap for Applying Reading Science Across All Tiers
- Teri Boezinger, Director of Curriculum and Instruction at Fort Dodge Community School District in Fort Dodge, IA, will highlight her district's science of reading journey. This will include insights on professional development, the integration of evidence-based resources, and their successful implementation to foster confident, proficient readers.

Literacy Leadership Journeys
A Leadership Guide to Literacy Transformation
- Sarah Mwangi, Assistant Superintendent, and Libbie Burd, Coordinator of Elementary Curriculum, both from Joplin Schools, will present the district’s literacy transformation. The pair will discuss efforts to strengthen foundational literacy skills by providing key professional learning initiatives with aligned core instruction and tiered interventions. Attendees will learn the strategies they used to overcome challenges and lessons that led to meaningful improvements in student outcomes.
Bringing It All Together: An interactive literacy leadership panel discussion
- Laura Stewart, Chief Academic Officer, 95 Percent Group, will moderate a discussion about effective reading science implementation.
- Attendees will have the unique opportunity to learn more about building and sustaining your literacy vision, share current challenges and ask questions.
- Deanna Kitson, EdD, Network Superintendent, St. Louis Public Schools and Heather Knight, Coordinator of Literacy, MO Department of Elementary & Secondary Education will join our panel along with our district guests who shared their reading science success stories.
