Welcome to our Science of Reading 2.0: From knowledge to implementation Webinar Series

Join Laura Stewart, Chief Academic Officer at 95 Percent Group, as she shares Science of Reading 2.0, a transformative webinar series featuring insightful discussions with literacy changemakers.

Webinar #1: Delivering on the Promise of Literacy for ALL available now on-demand

Teaching children to read is the most important of educational endeavors. All children deserve equitable access to high-quality, evidence-aligned instruction.

Without that instruction, many students will fall through the cracks, diminishing their potential to lead rich, literate lives.  More is known about how to teach reading than ever before, yet often, this evidence is not provided to teachers nor translated into practice.

This session provides a roadmap to move from the knowledge of the science of reading to principles of practice.

Highlights include:

  • The three big “must-know” concepts around the science of reading.  What’s going on in the brain when we read?
  • How the kind of text we put in front of beginning readers influences their reading habits
  • How the “sciences” of instruction, learning, and implementation lead us to effective practice

Science of Reading 2.0 is the convergence of the science of reading and the science of learning. Each webinar in the series covers critical science of reading topics, as shown below. Register here for the upcoming live webinars in the series

Whether you’re just getting started with the science of reading or have implemented reading science to practice, these leadership sessions will provide the knowledge, resources, and practical guidance to move forward using evidence-aligned resources and practices to develop lifelong readers.

Webinar #2: Big Questions, Bold Leader Moves

Thursday, December 5  |  6:30 PM CT

As an educator, are you seeking literacy change in your classroom, building or district? Transformational change involves a fundamental shift in how things are done, which means asking ourselves and our school communities bold questions about literacy and our leadership toward that goal. This requires all educators to know the “leader moves” which will guide collaborative problem-solving through those questions.

In this session, we will explore the big literacy questions that need to be asked and hear stories of courageous leader moves that have the power to enact transformational change in literacy instruction and ultimately impact student achievement. In working with leaders around the country, Laura has found these BIG questions and BOLD leader moves to be critical openings to any transformational change work.

Highlights include:

  • What is transformational literacy change?
  • The essential six questions that every educational leader needs to ask to transform literacy outcomes
  • Examining over 20 “bold leader moves” that are actionable today in starting or continuing the journey of literacy transformation

Webinar #3: The Science of Reading and Implementation

Thursday, February 6  |  6:30 PM CT

Featuring Terrie Noland, PhD, CALP and Literacy Leader

As we move into the next phase of our understanding of effective literacy instruction, we are building on the established research base known as the science of reading and into the science of implementation.  It’s not an either/or; it’s a BOTH/AND!

The implementation science will inform and ignite us as we reach our goal of bridging research to practice for better student outcomes.

Highlights include:

  • Defining the science of implementation and its importance in overcoming the very real research-to-practice gaps in education.
  • Exploring a roadmap of the phases of implementation and the courageous conversations we need to have in each phase to achieve long-term, lasting growth.

Webinar #4: Protecting your Science of Reading Investment

Thursday, May 15  |  6:30 PM CT

How do we protect our valuable investments to ensure we have the best chance of meeting our goals and impacting outcomes for our students? We follow the evidence!

Highlights include:

  • Evidence-aligned and evidence-based: what’s the difference and are both important?
